Well hey there, friends—welcome to my little corner of the internet! Pull up a beanbag chair, pour yourself a Tab (or a glass of Boones Farm, no judgment), and let’s get this thing rolling. I’m here to wave the flag for my people — those of us who are technically “Baby Boomers” but really aren’t. We’re the tail-enders, the ones who slid into the world in the mid-to-late 50s/mid-60s, who grew up with pet rocks, mood rings, and watched the first season of Charlie’s Angels and Happy Days “live.” We’re Generation Jones — the in-between crew that’s not quite Woodstock and not quite Gen X.

I cannot take credit for the name, it was actually first coined by cultural commentator Jonathon Pontell in 1999. This term describes those born roughly between 1954 and 1965, positioned between Baby Boomers and Generation X. Pontell introduced it to highlight this group’s unique blend of optimism from their 1960s childhood and the pragmatism shaped by 1970s-1980s economic challenges we experienced upon entering the workforce. The name draws from “keeping up with the Joneses” and the 70s slang for craving, “jonesing” (in this case we are yearning/Jonesing for unfulfilled promises). It gained traction through Pontell’s media appearances on networks like CNN and MSNBC 20+ years ago and is now referenced in major news outlets, books, magazines and the internet. Still, when I ask my own friends and family if they’ve heard of Generations Jones, most of them had no idea.

We’re the kids who learned our multiplication tables with Schoolhouse Rock, rushed home from school to watch the ABC After School Specials, we spent Friday Nights watching The Brady Bunch, and maybe even had our first crush on David Cassidy, Leif Garrett or Farrah Fawcett, depending on which Tiger Beat poster was taped to your bedroom wall.

And listen, I’m not here to throw shade at our older Boomer siblings. They gave us some great things—rock ’n’ roll, civil rights, Title IX, tie-dye, and let’s be honest, our first forays into computer programming and dial-up. But while they were busy burning bras and changing the world, we were the ones still in elementary school, watching Fonzie give his thumbs up “Ayyyyy!” and secretly wishing our families had an AstroTurf backyard like the Bradys.

We’re the generation that grew up straddling the analog and digital divide — which makes us cooler than our kids realize… we know how to use a rotary phone and an iPhone.  We can still recite every jingle from Saturday morning commercials (“My bologna has a first name…”—don’t even pretend you didn’t sing that in your head just now), but we also know our way around streaming services and memes. Were kinda cool that way, so there’s no “OK Boomer” in this house!!

And here’s the thing: we’re not old. Not by a long shot. Sure, we might be empty-nesting, or navigating menopause with a fan in one hand and a margarita in the other—but we’re still vibrant, stylish and ready for adventure. We’re the ones who know life doesn’t stop at 50, 60, or beyond. If anything, this is when the fun begins.

So this is our space — where nostalgia meets now, where we can laugh about shag carpet and avocado appliances, yet still celebrate who we are today: wiser, sassier, and definitely not “retiring quietly” Because let’s face it, we may be older than the Golden Girls were when the show started (don’t even get me started on that rude reality check), but honey—we are not about to start dressing like them. We’re Generation Jones—and we’re just getting started!
